Shift
Nesting in the wrong tree
a crow flies
as the crow flies
a cat on the grass shifts
adjusts
disappointed in the outcome
Standing at the kitchen window
she yells "eureka"!
sees him there on the grass
waiting patiently, kind
waiting
for her to adjust eventually
like a cat on the grass
a crow flies
as the crow flies
a cat on the grass shifts
adjusts
disappointed in the outcome
Standing at the kitchen window
she yells "eureka"!
sees him there on the grass
waiting patiently, kind
waiting
for her to adjust eventually
like a cat on the grass

Late March
I will always remember this day
a late March sky never rains
yet tonight there is rain,
lightning, thunder
this is what I need
unpredictability
a change in weather
a thunderstorm
like today
in late March
a late March sky never rains
yet tonight there is rain,
lightning, thunder
this is what I need
unpredictability
a change in weather
a thunderstorm
like today
in late March
Over and Out
A desert night sets cold
broken into tragic heart-scapes.
Fierce sun blinks a bloodshot eye-
closes over and is gone.

Never Give All The Heart - William Butler Yeats
NEVER give all the heart, for love
Will hardly seem worth thinking of
To passionate women if it seem
Certain, and they never dream
That it fades out from kiss to kiss;
For everything that's lovely is
But a brief, dreamy. Kind delight.
O never give the heart outright,
For they, for all smooth lips can say,
Have given their hearts up to the play.
And who could play it well enough
If deaf and dumb and blind with love?
He that made this knows all the cost,
For he gave all his heart and lost.
Will hardly seem worth thinking of
To passionate women if it seem
Certain, and they never dream
That it fades out from kiss to kiss;
For everything that's lovely is
But a brief, dreamy. Kind delight.
O never give the heart outright,
For they, for all smooth lips can say,
Have given their hearts up to the play.
And who could play it well enough
If deaf and dumb and blind with love?
He that made this knows all the cost,
For he gave all his heart and lost.

After Great Pain A Formal Feeling Comes
After great pain a formal feeling comes--
The nerves sit ceremonious like tombs;
The stiff Heart questions--was it He that bore?
And yesterday--or centuries before?
The feet, mechanical, go round
The nerves sit ceremonious like tombs;
The stiff Heart questions--was it He that bore?
And yesterday--or centuries before?
The feet, mechanical, go round
A wooden way
Of ground, or air, or ought,
Regardless grown,
A quartz contentment, like a stone.
Of ground, or air, or ought,
Regardless grown,
A quartz contentment, like a stone.
This is the hour of lead
Remembered if outlived,
As freezing persons recollect the snow--
First chill, then stupor, then the letting go.
Remembered if outlived,
As freezing persons recollect the snow--
First chill, then stupor, then the letting go.
Emily Dickinson
